Brewers-Mets trade idea sends 3.02 starter to Milwaukee originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . The Milwaukee Brewers are fresh off an embarrassing NLCS performance against the Los Angeles Dodgers , where they were swept in four games. Now, as the hot stove season approaches, Milwaukee should look to make a few impactful moves headed into next season. Milwaukee has seen so much regular-season success over the past seven seasons, but is now 5-16 in October since 2018. This season is certainly to sting a little harder, considering the Brewers set a franchise record for wins. However, Milwaukee's front office has a chance this winter to do whatever it can to ensure the embarrassment of this past NLCS doesn't happen again.  Brewers trade idea lands Mets' Kodai Senga Is there a world where the New York Mets move on from Kodai Senga?  In a recent offseason guide for the Milwaukee Brewers by Bleacher Report...

🔥 Message to the haters? Leroy Sané silences his critics As a footballer, what’s the best way to respond to criticism of your performance? Exactly: you respond on the pitch. Leroy Sané did that impressively this evening. In Galatasaray’s 2–1 derby win over Başakşehir, the flying winger scored twice away from home for the first time since August 2023. Cape Verde is second smallest nation to qualify for soccer World Cup. What's next for fans

Image
History made. After securing a triumphant 3-0 victory over Eswatini on Monday, Oct. 13, the Cape Verdean men's soccer team secured automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup . This is the first time the "Tubarões Azuis" (Blue Sharks) have qualified for the tournament; they are just the second smallest nation ever to do so — only behind Iceland. The tournament will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States from June to July 2026. With Boston selected as a host city, Brockton's significant Cape Verdean population might be able to transform Gillette Stadium into something of a home game for Cape Verde. Match locations and opponents will be named on Friday, Dec. 5 during the tournament's official draw. More Cape Verdeans live outside the home islands ( about 700,000 people  according to the United Nations) than on them ( almost 600,000  by the CIA's latest estimate). No U.S. city has more Cape Verdeans than Brockton. According to 2...

(NBA Entertainment) Knicks head coach earns low ranking by NBA writer originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . The New York Knicks made a bold decision this offseason when they elected to fire Tom Thibodeau from his head coaching duties. In turn, they hired Mike Brown, who some believe the jury may still be out on. The Knicks made the shocking decision just weeks after reaching their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2000, a run that included knocking off the defending champions, the Boston Celtics , in the second round. Now, they’ll look to hit another level with Mike Brown.  Brown given low ranking amongst NBA head coaches Recently, CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn ranked every head coach in the NBA heading into this season, with Brown coming in at No. 18.  “As offensive creativity and better lineup management were two of the major reasons the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau, Brown will be put to the test early ...

Image
Carlo Ancelotti leaves the door open for Neymar to make Brazil’s World Cup squad Carlo Ancelotti has not ruled out the possibility of Neymar making a stunning return to the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup.  However, the 66-year-old veteran head coach admitted that everything will depend on his physical condition and fitness level before the tournament. Neymar has made it clear that he wants to represent Brazil one more time on the biggest stage in football. But injuries have kept him away from international duty for almost two years. The last time he played for the Selecao was back in October 2023, when he suffered a serious injury in the 2-0 World Cup qualifier defeat against Uruguay. Since then, the 33-year-old forward has struggled with recurring injury problems.  Neymar has been injured since September, and despite his injury woes, Ancelotti has refused to shut him out of the Brazilian national team. When asked about Neymar’s chances...

The 2025 season was not one that fans will want to remember. They missed the postseason for the first time since the 2016 season, putting them in unfamiliar territory.  Houston had a few holes, but its biggest problem came with the number of key players who were injured. They were without Yordan Alvarez for much of the season as he battled with a right-hand fracture.  However, that was not the only big injury. They were also without Isaac Paredes and Jeremy Pena for a month, lost Josh Hader toward the end of the season, and saw numerous players reinjure themselves. According to FanGraphs , the Astros lost the most potential value to injuries this season, and the club is looking to break away from that in 2026.  Astros dismiss head athletic trainer after year of injury woes You cannot...

Official | Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade reports to German national team

Official | Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade reports to German national team The German FA has confirmed that Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade will be reporting to training camp on Tuesday evening. A statement published on the DFB website confirms Woltemade’s imminent arrival in Herzogenaurach. The DFB does note that the 23-year-old’s continued struggles with flu-like symptoms mean that he might not be able to partake in tomorrow morning’s training session.  In any event – as had been a topic of concern – there will be no player called up to directly replace Woltemade. German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has already called up two additional players since his initial squad was confirmed last week. Freiburg keeper Noah Atubolu will not be directly replacing anyone. Brentford attacker Kevin Schade will take the squad slot of the injured Jamie Leweling. “ Nick Woltemade will arrive at team headquarters late Tuesday, ” the DFB statement reads. “ He was unable to...

Rashid Shaheed, Spencer Rattler put together career-long scoring play vs. Giants

The New Orleans Saints wee looking for their first win of the 2025 season Sunday against the New York Giants -- who also got their first win last week against the Los Angeles Chargers. By the half, the Saints held a 16-14 lead, showing some of the strongest momentum they've shown all season offensively. And a huge part of that effort was wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who reeled in an 87-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Spencer Rattler with five minutes and 16 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Naturally, it was an incredibly quick-scoring drive that lasted just 11 seconds and marked the Saints' first touchdown play of the game. Academy Match Report: Middlesbrough u18s 0-2 Manchester United u18s

Image
Academy Match Report: Middlesbrough u18s 0-2 Manchester United u18s Manchester United u18s took on Middlesbrough away on Saturday morning in their second group stage match of the Premier League Cup. United opened the cup with a convincing 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in August. First half There was little in the way of excitement for the majority of the first half with neither side able to create clear-cut chances. United had to settle for half chances, with Samuel Lusale coming close to forcing a mistake from the Middlesbrough keeper, who hesitated under the United winger’s pressure. It wasn’t until the 43rd minute though that United made the breakthrough. JJ Gabriel was first to a loose 50-50 ball and headed it to Lusale, who struck first time on the volley past the keeper to make it 0-1 at the break. Second half Nathaniel Junior Brown looked to add another goal to his tally for the season after netting for the u17s in their midweek Premier League Cup fixt...

Patriots vs. Bills Friday injury report: Milton Williams among four questionable

Defensive tackle Milton Williams stands among them after going from limited to sidelined to limited during AFC East prep because of an ankle injury. The list also includes outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson, inside linebacker Jahlani Tavai and cornerback Carlton Davis III. But on the other side of the ball, a rookie starter will go without a game designation against the unbeaten Buffalo Bills. “Yeah, he’s worked hard to come back,” head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters of left guard Jared Wilson, a recent inactive due to knee and ankle issues. “And so, as of right now, the plan is to start Jared and continue that development there on the left side and his play.” Here’s the early, final injury report ahead of Sunday’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff at Highmark Stadium. PREGAMIN’ THE BYE WEEK

WELCOME BACK TO PREGAMIN’ HERE’S YOUR JAM OF THE WEEK (just go with this new format, please, we’ll pretend like this is how we’ve always done it) Rock-M-ixology By popular demand (that one guy in the first Pregamin’ I think?) Rock-M-ixology is back. I suppose its more fun making cocktails and drinking beer than it is writing about college football costumes, anyway. I need to restock on some stuff before we get to the recipes next weekend. So for the bye week, I’m just going to bump a really tasty beer I enjoyed recently. Just a perfectly pleasant fruited sour. Not too tart, not overly sweet, just a touch yeasty. Rockets predicted to acquire 20 ppg guard for former third pick to fill VanVleet's shoes

Image
Rockets predicted to acquire 20 ppg guard for former third pick to fill VanVleet's shoes originally appeared on The Sporting News The Houston Rockets were able to complete a trade for Kevin Durant this offseason, and instantly became a team to watch out for in the playoffs. Unfortunately, their starting point guard, Fred VanVleet, suffered a torn ACL about a month before the season started so they may be looking for a replacement.  A couple of names have been tossed around, like Russell Westbrook or Immanuel Quickley, but an even better option proposed by Fansided’s Cal Durrett has the Rockets acquiring a 25-year-old 20-point-per-game scorer. “(Coby) White could find a similarly frosty market if he's expecting a giant payday. Nevertheless, he'd be perfect for the Rockets in the short term,” Durrett said Wednesday. “White being a high-volume 3-point shooter could help a spacing-starved Rockets team. They ranked just 21st in 3-point percentage last season, but if they...

NFL Picks Week 5: A Giant Hill To Climb

Image
The New Orleans Saints head back home to face the New York Giants, to continue their winless season so far. After avoiding getting stampeded in Buffalo last week, the Saints proved they could rebound from a terrible performance, even in a loss. Now the Saints go from facing the NFL’s best to facing a team in their own weight class, a team that just earned their first win of the season last week, with rookie QB Jaxson Dart in his first career start. Thankfully, there is now some film on Dart, following his win over the Chargers, a luxury the Saints historically haven’t had against many rookie quarterbacks. Four weeks over, and the Saints have yet to earn their first win and attaining that goal could be a giant hill to climb, but with some returning stars, that hill may not be as giant as it appears. Let’s take a look at this and every matchup in Week 5. Last week I went 10-6 ( I count the tie as a loss ) I told you so:  Steelers over Vikings! What do I know:  Bea...
