2025-26 Mountain West Bracketology: Feb. 13
Happy Friday, everyone! We are nearing the one-month mark until Selection Sunday. Where does each potential at-large bid stand as we enter the second full weekend of February? Let’s examine!
At Large Candidates:
Utah State:
NET: 23
KenPom: 25
Lunardi: 7-seed
Bracket Matrix (out of 113 simulations; Feb. 12): 113
Average Bracket Matrix Seed: 7.8
Skinny: Similarly to how it’s been all season, Utah State is currently in no danger of missing the cut as an at-large. Yes, it’s loss to Quad 3 UNLV — which came on the heels of a loss to Grand Canyon — likely made many hold its breath. But the Aggies remain 8-2 in Quad 1-2 games, including an unbeaten 5-0 in Quad 2 affairs after their two-point win over Wyoming last weekend. As a result, they have moved up the totem poll in Lunardi’s — and in most people’s — recent bracket (simulations).
Still More Work To Do:
New Mexico:
NET: 44
KenPom: 45
Lunardi: First Four Out
Bracket Matrix: 15
Average Bracket Matrix Seed: 11
Skinny: New Mexico earned a resume-defining win over Grand Canyon in Phoenix on Wednesday. The Lobos choked away a 20-point lead, only to evidently secure a six-point win on the back of freshman guard Jake Hall. Although that game dropped from a Quad 1 to a Quad 2 win in the NET’s most recent update.
San Diego State:
NET: 42
KenPom: 43
Lunardi: Last Four In
Bracket Matrix: 60
Average Bracket Matrix Seed: 11
Skinny: Like New Mexico, San Diego State is right on the Last Four In/First Four Out line. They are 1-3 in Quad 1 games and 3-1 in Quad 2 games. SDSU will have three more Q1 opportunties over the last month, plus a pair of Quad 2 opportunities — including one against Nevada Saturday. It must take advantage.
