Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes Out Injured Until Mid April
Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is expected to be sidelined until late in the second week of April after suffering a hamstring injury during the Magpies’ 2–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28-year-old was forced off during the second half, and subsequent assessments have indicated Bruno will be out for between six and 10 weeks.
The timeline means Guimaraes will miss matches through March and likely return only after the international break. Newcastle’s first game following that break is scheduled for April 11, away to Crystal Palace in a Premier League clash.
Bruno is set to miss at least eight games across all competitions, including the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland on March 22, the Champions League play-off round against Qarabag, the potential two-legged last-16 tie against either Chelsea or Barcelona, and most likely part of the UCL quarterfinals — scheduled for April 7 and 14 — if Newcastle get there.
The injury adds one more concern to an already challenging period for Newcastle, let alone to the depth of the squad in midfield.
Joelinton and Lewis Miley remain unavailable, and although both are expected to return sooner than Guimaraes, with Joelinton potentially back after the FA Cup matchup against Aston Villa, that is still a precarious situation.
Back to Bruno, Newcastle have not won any of the 12 Premier League matches he has failed to start since his full debut in March 2022, earning six draws and losing six games in those matchups.
This season, Bruno has been directly involved in 11 league goals at St James’ Park, scoring eight and assisting three. Ten of those contributions have come in his last nine home appearances.
