Gregory Rodrigues vs. Brunno Ferreira 2 UFC 326 preview

Rodrigues (18-6 MMA, 9-3 UFC) looks to get one back on Ferreira (15-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC), who knocked him out cold in the first round at UFC 283 in 2023.

Since that meeting, Rodrigues has gone 5-1, including finishes of Denis Tiuliulin, Brad Tavares and Jack Hermansson. His lone loss was a Fight of the Night TKO loss against former title challenger Jared Cannonier. "Robocop" enters this rematch on the heels of back-to-back wins over Hermansson and Roman Kopylov.

Ferreira has won five and lost two since knocking out Rodrigues in their first meeting. He's finished Phil Hawes, Dustin Stoltzfus, Armen Petrosyan and Jackson McVey. His two losses were both stoppages against Nursulton Ruziboev and Abus Magomedov.

Despite having the perfect lightweight action fight as a main card opener right above Gregory Rodrigues and Brunno Ferreira, the current UFC matchmakers continue to piss all of Joe Silva's sure-fire card formatting by continuing to force-feed us their fetish of rematches and middleweight fights down our throats. But I digress.

Although I'm not entirely sure why this was booked, it feels like a downright trap fight for Rodrigues.

Despite Rodrigues being better-skilled technically and a lot less disjointed in almost every phase in this matchup, the chin of "Hobocop" will allow for Ferreira's opportunistic power to be live for as long as the fight is standing.

Rodrigues would be smart to press his on-paper grappling advantages on the floor, but fighting smart isn't exactly what he's known for. For that reason, I'll cautiously pick Rodrigues to edge out a tepid decision win on the scorecards.

Trace Carroll, close friend of ASU's Dillingham, takes over as Chaparral football coach

Trace Carroll, who was teammates and best friends with Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham in high school, is returning to Scottsdale Chaparral to lead the football program. Carroll played for two of the greatest high school coaches in Arizona history, Ron Estabrook and Charlie Ragle. He played at the tail end of Estabrook's career and the start of Ragle's tenure at the school. Tanner Bibee emerged a central piece to the Guardians’ future last season. He’ll now remain in Cleveland until at least 2029. The Guardians signed the right-hander to a five-year contract extension through the 2029 season that includes a club option for 2030, the club announced Saturday afternoon.
