Tyreek Hill; Patrick Mahomes- The Indianapolis Colts removed a video from social media that appeared to joke about Tyreek Hill's detainment last September before an NFL game
- The Colts apologized for the video Thursday, telling PEOPLE it recognized there were some "insensitivities" in the clip
- The team's video also poked fun at other NFL teams and players, including Patrick Mahomes and his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr.
An attempt at a lighthearted video announcing the Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 season schedule ended up with the team scrubbing the clip from its social media channels and later apologizing to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
The Colts posted its Minecraft-themed schedule release video on Wednesday, May 14 in coordination with other NFL teams, who in recent years have all made attempts to go viral with the otherwise routine and mundane annual announcement.
In the Colts’ clip, the organization took several shots at other cities, teams, and their players as the video showcased each weekly matchup — from a vomit-filled Nashville bachelorette party bus running over Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis to Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh getting eaten by a gigantic emoji.
The video also portrayed Patrick Mahomes’ father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., in a boxing match against former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback — played by a frog — jumping in to stop the fight. (Mahomes Sr. and Rocker were initially set to fight one another in a match later this summer, PEOPLE previously reported, but it has since been called off.)
But the Colts’ jokes about its matchups against the Dolphins specifically appeared to rub some fans the wrong way.
In its Week 1 matchup announcement for a game against Miami, the Colts’ video showed a dolphin wearing a No. 10 Tyreek Hill jersey being stopped by a Coast Guard boat — an apparent reference to the 31-year-old wide receiver being detained by police officers on his way to a Dolphins game last September.
The 2024 arrest sparked backlash from Hill and other players around the league, who criticized police and their alleged aggressive handling of Hill, whose agent Drew Rosenhouse publicly called for the officers to be fired, according to ESPN. The incident also raised concern about police and race.
"I do want to use this platform to say, what if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill?" the wide receiver said after the incident last fall. "Worst case scenario. It’s crazy."

But Hill found the Colts’ video funny, he posted on X. "Should've left it up @Colts, this was funny," he wrote. His agent Rosenhouse also told ESPN the wide receiver “laughed about it” on Wednesday.
However, the Colts had already removed the video from social media, telling PEOPLE in a statement that it recognized there were “insensitivities” about the Hill situation.
"We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill,” a Colts spokesperson said. “We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.”
