Real Madrid End-of-Season Player Ratings: Mbappe’s 8.5/10 tops the attacking grades

Image
Real Madrid End-of-Season Player Ratings: Mbappe’s 8.5/10 tops the attacking grades Real Madrid, over the years, have been synonymous with goals simply because of the sheer quality they boast of in their front-line. With the biggest names in the sport always at the club, scoring goals has never really been their Achilles heel. For the first time in a long while, however, that appeared to be a hurdle for Los Blancos this season as they failed to find the back of the net as seamlessly as they usually do. With Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. leading the front line, Los Blancos had the best in the business to handle their attacking matters for them. Yet, the season exemplified that names are nothing in football without synergy. Madrid Universal brings you the 2025-26 season ratings of Real Madrid’s forwards from the recently concluded campaign. Kylian Mbappe There are two aspects to Mbappe’s second season at Real Madrid – the statistical takeaway and the practical scenario, both of which...

Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions showed great resilience to take the game beyond 120 minutes in Budapest, but fell to a second final defeat, 20 years after their first against Barcelona in 2006. Luis Enrique's side became only the second besides Real Madrid to win the competition in consecutive years in the Champions League era. "We are so, so proud, so happy, so grateful," PSG winger Desire Doue told TNT Sports. "As a team, as a family, I think we deserve that... look at the fans, we are so happy." PSG's first triumph was 55 years in the making, 14 of those under Qatari ownership, the second could start what they ...

Don’t expect Bengals in NFL cut candidates conversations

The NFL cuts candidate conversations are worth briefly revisiting for the Cincinnati Bengals right now.  Reason being, the June 1 annual landmark for roster cuts is almost here.  NFL teams often use post-June 1 designations on cuts, or outright wait until after June 1 to make certain cuts, so that they can freely shift certain cap hits to future years.  The Bengals don’t really have anyone of note on this topic right now, though.  Defensive tackle TJ Slaton was one at a certain point this offseason . According to Over the Cap , cutting Slaton with a post-June 1 designation would save the Bengals $6.6 million against the cap.  Barring a shocker like an Andrei Iosivas ($3.67 million in post-June 1 savings), the other obvious candidate is linebacker Oren Burks ($2.3 million in savings).  But again, the Bengals haven’t even bothered to do a Joe Burrow contract restructure to save serious cap space ($19.2 million) despite the big offseason spending, so they’re...

Kulak Draws on Past Experience; Avalanche Focused on Overcoming Mental Hurdle

Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images This wasn’t what anyone expected from the Western Conference Final. In fact, if there was a possibility that the series would end in four games, most would’ve thought the Colorado Avalanche were the ones who had won the first three. But that isn’t the case. The Avs faced their first real test of adversity this season when they lost Games 1 and 2 to the Vegas Golden Knights at home. That adversity was multiplied when a three-goal first-period lead was erased by the Knights, seemingly with ease, as they went on to win 5-3 in the third game to push Colorado to the brink of elimination. Everything about this sudden collapse seems more mental than anything. In...

Jason Kelce worries that NFL schedule is 'getting away' from Sunday

How much is too much? It's the question that continues to swirl following the release of the 2026 NFL schedule . After all, the schedule looks notably different than the ones that came before it. Only Tuesday was spared from the calendar this year, with games slated to be held on the other six days of the week. That increase in standalone games has gotten the attention of fans, as well as a former Philadelphia Eagles center – and not for good reason. On the May 20 episode of the "New Heights" podcast , Jason Kelce said he feels like the league is drifting away from Sunday being the most important day of the football week. "Sunday is the day of football," Kelce said. "Outside of going to church in the morning, if you're still religious and do that, Sunday is where so many games happen and and that's what you grow up and you gear your entire week around watching football on Sunday. "It's an institution at this point, the NFL playing games on...

Guardiola overwhelmed by Etihad stand naming ‘honour’

Image
Guardiola overwhelmed by Etihad stand naming ‘honour’ Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said the naming of a stand at the Etihad in his name is the ‘hugest honour’. Guardiola will leave Manchester City this summer after 10 seasons of silverware success. The Spaniard took charge of the team for the final time during the club’s defeat to Aston Villa, a fixture which concluded their Premier League campaign. Ahead of the game, the Cityzens revealed that the newly-developed and expanded North Stand at the Etihad Stadium will be named ‘The Pep Guardiola Stand’, in recognition of his achievements. Addressing the crowd at full-time, the six-time Premier League winner called it a huge honour and urged the squad to retain their high standards upon his exit. “I’m so nervous right now. Why do you love me so much? Why do you do that to me? “I never imagined the amount of love, it had been an incredible, tremendous honour to be your manager for 10 years. Incredible emotions. My dad is here t...

'If I was Ajit Agarkar, I would switch off my phone': Ashwin on Shubman Gill's T20I selection

Image
NEW DELHI: With several exciting T20 talents emerging, team selection has become a major headache for the selectors. Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes Shubman Gill, who is in ominous form in IPL 2026, deserves a place in India’s T20I setup. However, with youngsters like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyansh Arya coming through, along with established names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma and experienced Sanju Samson already in contention, the competition has become intense. “Main bolta hoon mushkil hai yaar. Agar main Ajit Agarkar hota na, selection ke waqt phone chhod ke Maldives chala jata. Phone hi nahi uthaunga,” he said. Shubman lost his place in India’s T20I setup ahead of the home series against New Zealand national cricket team, which preceded the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, India’s Test and ODI captain responded in style with a sensational IPL 2026 campaign. Gill has scored 616 runs in 13 matches at an average of 47.38 and a strike rate of 161.68, including ...

Washed-up NFL legend announces impending retirement to disinterested nation

On Wednesday, Aaron Rodgers broke the seal . After years of festering "will he or won't he?" consternation, darkness retreats , picking fights with football hagiographs, and precipitously declining play on the field, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback declared he will finally retire after the 2026 NFL season. To that I say: Congratulations! Do you want a cookie? Anyway, what else is going on in the world, quite literally anywhere? In all seriousness, Rodgers did this to himself. Even if you take the words of a glorified charlatan like him at face value, and you really believe he will retire at the age of 43 this coming January, it's hard to muster up the necessary pomp and circumstance for him. You know, the kind of farewell tour and celebrations usually reserved for beloved athletes and sports figures. To earn that, you have to be both special at your craft and, if not outright kind to others, at least a seemingly decent human being enough not to alienate almost e...

Serhou Guirassy says Borussia Dortmund finishing second to Bayern Munich is ‘frustrating and annoying’

Image
Bayern Munich claimed its second consecutive Bundesliga title, finishing 16 points clear of Borussia Dortmund. The Schwarzgelben last won the league in 2012 and has been unable to clear the hurdle since, particularly during the two years where the Bavarians were a mess. Comments from Dortmund coach Niko Kovač implies second place is the best Dortmund can do, but Serhou Guirassy has had enough of it. “Second place is frustrating and annoying,” Guirassy began (via Bundesliga as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia ) Bayern were really, really good this year, though. You can see it in the Champions League too, even though they lost against PSG. Right now, I think PSG and Bayern are the two best teams in Europe. To become champions, you have to win games against Bayern because even they can drop points, although it’s difficult against them. Second place is not enough for us, because when you play for Dortmund, you want to win titles.” While I don’t like what Uli Hoeneß for the most ...

Staff Takeaways: Manchester United 3-2 Nottingham Forest

(Photo by Nigel French/Sportsphoto/Allstar via Getty Images) | Getty Images Staff thoughts on the latest victory for Michael Carrick and Manchester United. Suwaid: More of the Same but Better There wasn’t a lot riding in that game for either team, which made it one of the most entertaining games of the season. Bryan Mbeumo could’ve got a hat-trick, and Bruno Fernandes should’ve broken the Premier League assist record, but it wasn’t to be.  United were worthy winners, and this kind of performance and result is preferable to a drab 1-0 win, but it’s fair to say that United won’t be able to sustain this going into next season. Michael Carrick will need to add some control either through meticulous coaching or by bringing in players who...

Cowboys named landing spot for Steelers' $123 million superstar trade candidate

Image
Cowboys named landing spot for Steelers' $123 million superstar trade candidate originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . Trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last offseason left the Dallas Cowboys with a true difference-making defender in 2025-26.  As a result, Dallas struggled to generate turnovers, defend the run effectively, and apply heavy pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In other words, the Cowboys' unreliable play on defense overshadowed the offense’s electric performance from start to finish (they ranked second in total offense and fifth in scoring). Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios believes that acquiring the Pittsburgh Steelers ’ superstar trade candidate could be the move that helps Dallas elevate their defensive production in 2026-27. “T.J. Watt joining the Dallas Cowboys would be the dream scenario,” Palacios wrote Thursday. “The team tried to trade for Maxx Cro...

Pablo Torre: Fox is the ‘little guy’ in NFL rights battle

Image
Credit: Pablo Torre Finds Out, imagn images The relationship between Fox Sports and the NFL is perhaps the most intriguing element of the ongoing story surrounding the rights negotiations that will reshape the modern media world. Fox is leading the charge to keep NFL games on broadcast television. And it’s probably no conicidence that the federal government’s interest in anticompetitive practices from the NFL and concerns about streaming proliferation comes alongside meetings between Fox chairman emeritus Rupert Murdoch and President of the United States Donald Trump. But the biggest challenge facing Fox is one that is purely financial. They have far less capital to spend on NFL rights than the likes of tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Netflix. Fox’s market cap is just under $25 billion. By comparison, Amazon is worth $2.93 trillion and Google is at $4.83 trillion. David Samson and former ESPN president John Skipper joined Pablo Torre on a recent episode of  Pablo Torre Finds...

Sean Strickland added another epic upset to his resumé, taking a split decision over Khamzat Chimaev to reclaim the title and cement his unique legacy in the sport. So let’s talk about where we go from here, plus Jim F*cking Miller! Are we headed for Strickland vs. Chimaev 2? Strickland-Chimaev rematch is next right? Business was too good for it to be Imavov next or Chimaev moving up to 205. Man, I hope not. Which means it’s probably happening. Let’s get this out of the way: I scored the fight for Chimaev, but it was a very close fight, and I have no problem with Strickland winning. But it wasn’t so close of a fight that it demands an immediate r...

What's Austin Reaves' market value? Whatever it is, he's likely worth plenty to the Lakers

Austin Reaves did his damnedest. After missing the Los Angeles Lakers’ final five regular-season games and the first four games of the 2026 NBA playoffs with a Grade 2 oblique strain , the sweet-shooting guard logged long hours in a hyperbaric chamber to fast-track the healing process in hopes of getting back on the court as soon as possible. He returned in time to help the Lakers knock off the Houston Rockets without Luka Dončić in Round 1 and averaged nearly 21 points and seven assists per game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals, capped by a team-high 27 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in 43 minutes on Monday. It was a valiant effort, but not enough to prevent the defending champs from finishing off their second straight 4-0 sweep to send the Lakers into an offseason teeming with questions . Foremost among them, obviously, is what comes next for LeBron James — whether his Hall of Fame run as a Laker is at an end, whether his entire career is ...
