Multiple Teams Offering Celtics Top-10 Picks for Jaylen Brown, Derrick White: Report
Multiple Teams Offering Celtics Top-10 Picks for Jaylen Brown, Derrick White: Report originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Boston Celtics moved quickly on a couple of trades to reset both their roster and salary cap situation moving into a 2025-26 season that will likely be absent star Jayson Tatum.
Boston first dealt two-way guard and two-time NBA champion Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers on Monday, June 23, for Anfernee Simons and two second-round draft picks.
The Celtics then moved center Kristaps Porzingis and a second-round selection in a three-team deal with the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets that brought Georges Niang and a second-round pick back to Boston.
The two moves pulled the Celtics under the second apron and saved the team roughly $180 million in luxury tax, per a report from Bobby Marks.
Boston has quickly gone from a reigning NBA champion with impeccable odds at a repeat title to a franchise that will be without at least three of hits top five players from the 2024-25 season next year, including two in Holiday and Porzingis who are presumably gone for good.
That said, the team has positioned itself to reorganize and rebuild in what should still probably be a playoff campaign in 2025-26 considering the relative state of the Eastern Conference, and has also saved itself upwards of $200 million.
So mission accomplished, right? Maybe not quite yet.
The Celtics continues to hold two significant contracts belonging to Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. And given the fire sale that has ensued in Boston early this week ahead of Wednesday's NBA draft, teams around the league are coming strong with inquiries about the availability of the franchise's two remaining healthy stars.

"The reason that today is the day that this decision is probably gonna get made is there are teams in the top 10 who are making offers -- top 10 in the draft tonight," Brian Windhorst reported on "First Take" Wednesday. "You potentially would be able to get replacement players and a draft pick. I don't know if Brad Stevens and his staff is in love with one of these top guys, maybe they are. But that is what is on the table."
Windhorst went on to say he believes Boston is finished making trades involving their big-name players, but he stopped short of guaranteeing that outcome.
"I agree with Stephen A. [Smith]," Windhorst continued. "I say at midnight Jaylen Brown is still a Celtic and Derrick White is still a Celtic and they run it back and they get ready to go in 2026-27, but I don't know for sure that's going to happen."
