Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner delivered another Grand Slam classic on Sunday, but this time, the outcome flipped. Sinner, World No. 1, fought back after losing the first set to beat the defending champion 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and claim his maiden Wimbledon title. The win marked Sinner’s fourth Grand Slam title and second of the year after winning the Australian Open in January. Meanwhile, Alcaraz saw his 24-match win streak and perfect 5-0 Grand Slam final record come to an end.
Despite the loss, Alcaraz remained composed and optimistic. When asked during ESPN’s post-match interview if he saw himself returning to Wimbledon to fight for another title, his answer was clear and confident: “Absolutely.”
That one word, backed by a smile, drew a massive cheer from the crowd, a reminder of how beloved he is at the All England Club.
In his on-court speech, Alcaraz graciously praised his rival and friend. “First of all, I just have to congratulate Jannik once again,” he said. “It’s a really well-deserved trophy. Unbelievable two weeks here in London for you.”
