The Tampa Bay Rays are set to play the Boston Red Sox in the second contest of a four-game series on Friday night. Tampa Bay earned an 8-4 win in Boston to begin the series on Thursday. Before Friday’s game, the Rays made a roster announcement.

“The Tampa Bay Rays have reinstated RHP Mason Englert (right forearm tightness) from the 15-day IL and optioned RHP Chase Solesky to Triple-A Durham,” the team announced.

Englert, 26, pitched to a 7.11 ERA in nine outings before landing on the injured list. In 2025, however, he had a 3.83 ERA in 29 appearances. He features the potential to make a legitimate impact out of the bullpen.

The Rays have played extremely well in recent action. They are currently 25-12 and in second place in the American League East standings. Tampa Bay only trails the New York Yankees by a half-game for first place in the standings. Additionally, they are only a half-game back of the best record in MLB, as the Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves are all currently tied at 26-12.

Tampa Bay does not feature as many superstars as some other ball clubs. The Rays find ways to win games by implementing a complete team effort. They are continuing to upset expectations so far in 2026.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, were expected to compete this year. They are just 16-22 and in last place in the AL East standings.

The Rays will look to take care of business once again on Friday night in Boston. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST.
