Tyrese Haliburton Addresses Father’s Wild Action Against Giannis Antetokounmpo

Image
Hours after his father starred in a heated exchange with Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tyrese Haliburton reflected on the situation again.  The veteran guard addressed the back-and-forth during his post-game interview, saying that his father's actions weren't ideal and revealing he apologized to Antetokounmpo .  After an intense, hard-fought Game 5 of their first-round playoff series, the Indiana Pacers came back from a seven-point deficit with 40 seconds left on the clock to beat the Bucks 119-118 behind five of Haliburton's points during that stretch.  Giannis Antetokounmpo guarding Tyrese Haliburton.© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Once the game was over and the Pacers secured their spot in the second round of the postseason, Haliburton's dad went to taunt Antetokounmpo, which took offense to that action.  The Greek player called out John Haliburton for being disrespectful after winning the series, reminding him that he's an NBA champion...

Steelers Ex Hoge Blasts Shedeur As 'Ain't Even Close' QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their chance to end the speculation around their future at the quarterback position this past weekend at the NFL Draft. Some thought that would mean their selecting Shedeur Sanders with the No. 21 overall pick in the draft.  Pittsburgh passed on him and did not really find a long term answer at the position either. Instead, they went about filling almost every other need on the roster, passing on Sanders at every stop.  Now perhaps they will look like fools in the coming years and their vaunted rival Cleveland Browns will absorb the praise for finding a diamond in the rough.  But the Sanders-Steelers connection before the draft was already shaky. According to one former Steeler, it would seem the team made the right call in his eyes.  Just days before the draft, Merril Hoge appeared on WDVE radio in Pittsburgh, explaining his case as to why Sanders is not a viable quarterback at the professional level.  "I think the best way to ...

Mavs fall to Davis on the pitch

Apr. 29—MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake Mavericks soccer team fell 0-2 in their game against Davis on Friday evening. "We started off super slow, didn't come with the tempo that we normally have been coming in with the last couple of games," said Mavs' coach Miguel Segura. Davis had scored two by the end of the first half, putting the Mavs on the defensive in the second. They had picked up momentum in the second half but were unable to mount a comeback, said the coach. "They came out from the first minute, they capitalized on the chances they got," said Segura. "That's what we need to come out and gain from this." The Mavericks currently sit with an overall record of 7-7 and are 5-4 in league games after their loss Friday. They are currently looking to be tied for second place with Sunnyside, Davis and Eisenhower now also having 5-4 league records and Wenatchee is currently at the number one spot in the Big Nine with a league record of 7-1. ...

Who shined brightest on the diamond last week? Here are baseball's top player nominees

Image
Bishop Hendricken remains the lone unbeaten team atop Division I, North Providence and West Warwick are setting the pace in Division II, and Woonsocket is threatening to run away with Division III. That’s the current state baseball scene as we get set to make the turn into May. The Hawks, Cougars, Wizards and Villa Novans are the favorites in their respective title races as April comes to a close. Hendricken won a showdown with rival La Salle and finished a suspended 11-inning classic with Cumberland to stay perfect. North Providence and West Warwick are rolling with one defeat apiece, holding a two-game lead on the rest of the field in the loss column. Woonsocket has a headline meeting with the Pawtucket co-op coming, another chance to cement its place atop the standings. Each of those programs is powered by standout players, and that’s our business here. Some of these names are familiar, and a few more have emerged over the course of the opening month. That discovery is part of ...

Former Bruins forward chugs beer, hypes up crowd for Blues-Jets game

It didn’t take Pat Maroon long to return to the rink. The former Boston Bruins forward, who retired earlier this month, returned to Enterprise Center on Sunday to hype up the crowd ahead of Game 4 between the St. Louis Blues and the Winnipeg Jets. The Blues trail 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. Maroon, who hails from St. Louis, was shown on the jumbotron and drew large cheers from those in attendance when he chugged his Bud Light. The 37-year-old spent the second half of the 2023-24 season with now-Blues coach Jim Montgomery on the Bruins. He appeared in two regular season games after he was traded to the Bruins from the Minnesota Wild. He underwent back surgery prior to the trade and was sidelined for most of the remainder of the regular season. Maroon played in 13 playoff games before Boston was eliminated in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Florida Panthers. While he was in Boston for only a brief time, the forward quickly became a fan favo...

Auburn Sends Miles Kelly Message After Historic Season

Image

The Tigers finished 13th in the nation in scoring, averaging 83 points per game, with a plus-13.5 scoring margin (eighth best).  The program secured the No. 1 overall NCAA seed, knocked out Alabama State, Creighton, Michigan and Michigan State to get into the Final Four, then fell 79-73 to Florida in the semifinals.  Much of their success last season can be attributed to the play of senior guard Miles Kelly.  On Saturday, Auburn took to X to salute Kelly, posting a montage video with the caption, “Gonna miss this sharp shoota 👌🔥”. Sean Payton claims Broncos did not attempt to trade up in 1st round of NFL draft

Leading up to the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, there were several reports (and plenty of rumors) that the Denver Broncos could make a big splash by trading up. Hours before the draft, reports emerged that Denver was attempting to move up . The Athletic's Dianna Russini went to the extent of reporting the Broncos were " making an aggressive push to get into the top 10." That led to speculation that Denver might have been aiming to trade up to select Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, but he went to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 6 and the Broncos ended up staying put at No. 20. It's unclear if Denver changed course after Jeanty (or someone else) went off the board, or if they merely had exploratory trade-up talks or perhaps the reports were simply inaccurate. Following the first round, coach Sean Payton claimed the team did not look into trading up. “We felt like this was a pick-at-our-number or possibly move back year based on how the board set,” Pay...

Beckford scores as Hartford Athletic down Birmingham, 1-0, for first win of season

As Hartford Athletic surged toward a playoff berth at the end of last season, winning or drawing in 13 of its final 16 games, fans were thrilled that, playoffs or not, better times seemed ahead. What a difference a few months makes. Athletic (1-0-4) stumbled out of the gate this season, losing each of its first four USL games and falling to lower-league Portland Hearts of Pine in the U.S. Open Cup. In the process, Hartford scored just one league goal. On Saturday, head coach Brendan Burke and Co. started to turn things around, blanking Birmingham Legion SC, 1-0, to earn their first victory of the season. Deshane Beckford scored the lone goal for Athletic, firing home an assist from Mamadou Dieng in the 71st minute for his first tally of the season. It was the best performance of the season for the club, as they surpassed season highs in shots, shots on target, and crosses. Hartford returns to action on Saturday against Portland in a USL Cup game at 4 p.m. at Trinity Health Stad...

Bayern close in on Bundesliga title with Heidenheim thumping

Image
Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane (R) scored his 24th league goal of the season against Heidenheim (THOMAS KIENZLE) Harry Kane scored his 24th league goal of the season as Bayern Munich romped to a 4-0 win at Heidenheim on Saturday, moving the German giants ever closer to the Bundesliga title. Kane joined Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich on the scoresheet.  The victory took Bayern nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who play at St Pauli on Sunday. "It was a very important step towards the title," Kimmich told Sky Germany.  "We're now nine points ahead -- and Leverkusen have to win. But we're not really looking at them. We have to win at least two more games to secure the title." Stung by Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final elimination at Inter Milan, Bayern were ruthless. Kane, still seeking a first team trophy of his career, took the ball on the turn and lashed home with 12 minutes gone.  The England capta...

Alabama QB Jalen Milroe says he had a 'great meeting' with the Rams ahead of the draft

There’s at least a chance the Los Angeles Rams will take a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft and one possible target is Alabama ’s Jalen Milroe. He’s a fringe first-round prospect who some believe may go as early No. 21 to the Pittsburgh Steelers , but the Rams could consider him five picks later if he’s on the board. The Rams sat down with Milroe recently and he told DJ Siddiqi of Card Player that his meeting with the team went “great.” “I just met with the Rams,” Milroe said. “Great meeting with them. No matter what team it is, it is so important just to talk ball with them, get an understanding of how I view X’s and O’s and the process of it is big. The meeting went well. Every one of them, I leave out, and they leave out so impressed with me.” Milroe is unquestionably the best athlete in this year’s class of quarterbacks, running a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash. He’s a true dual-threat quarterback, but he does need time to develop as a passer. The Rams could give him that o...

Redrafting the 2015 NFL Draft 10 years later, which includes a new third overall pick

Image
The 2015 NFL Draft is somehow almost 10 years removed from where we are now, which is a pretty fascinating thing to think about. That's the one where Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota headlined an ultimately underwhelming quarterback class and the overall talent wasn't quite as impressive as you'd normally expect. However, some great players came out of the 2015 draft class to be sure. LATEST NFL MOCK DRAFT:   A Jaguars trade into the top-3, Shedeur Sanders to a surprise team What if we redrafted that year's first round? How would it go? Well, we've tried to make fresh picks for all of the NFL teams who made selections in that first round. Some teams made big changes, while others stayed right where they were with the guys they chose. Like we did when we redrafted the 2014 NFL Draft , let's dive in and see how this all goes. 1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers : QB Jameis Winston, Florida State Winston never materialized into a long-term option at quarterback for the...

Eagles select an athletic pass rusher with local ties in latest USA TODAY mock draft

We are seven days away from the NFL draft kicking off, and the  Eagles  have completed their top 30 visits. The organization will now huddle up in the NovaCare Complex and prepare the ultimate draft board, including pass rushers, defensive tackles, and interior offensive linemen. Tennessee will be on the clock one week from tonight, and Philadelphia fans will wait almost three hours before the Super Bowl champions make their pick. Talented beat writers and NFL experts from across USA TODAY Sports released their latest mock draft, and the Eagles land Boston College pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku. Howie Roseman was no doubt pulling out his hair waiting for this pick to finally arrive. And as much as Roseman would have loved to trade up, he'll be very happy getting an edge rusher with 16.5 sacks last season. Ezeiruaku, who goes from the B.C. Eagles to the Philadelphia Eagles , can fit in nicely in the edge rusher rotation. – Martin Frank, Delaware Online The ...

Detroit Tigers lose first series since Dodgers opener as Brewers win finale 5-1

Image
MILWAUKEE – A six-game road trip that started off with so much promise fizzled out in less than 24 hours for the Detroit Tigers. First the good: the Tigers won a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins and then beat the Milwaukee Brewers with ease on Monday in the first of a three-game series. That put the Tigers in a perfect position to win another series. But all that good melted away quickly. Or rather, it disappeared along with their bats. The Tigers didn’t do much right in a 5-0 loss Tuesday night and the struggle continued on Wednesday afternoon in another loss, 5-1. Tigers focus on long game The Tigers called up Keider Montero from Triple-A Toledo and gave him the start on Wednesday, wanting to give their rotation an extra day of rest. "He can handle different style lineups,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said on Tuesday. “This is a (Brewers) team that I'm sure they'll stack lefties against them. They're going to be an active team if they get on th...
