Syracuse football: kickoff time announced for game versus SMU

Image
It’s a rarity through this point in the season: the Syracuse Orange will have a game that will *not be a nooner. The ACC announced the game times for Week 6 of the schedule, and Syracuse’s matchup versus SMU on Saturday, October 4 will kick off at 3:30 pm EST. This will be the Orange’s second game of the year where it will kick off at a non-noon time (the other being Colgate). The ’Cuse-SMU will air on either ESPN2 or the ACC Network. The final decision for what channel the game will be on will be made after this weekend’s games. Suddenly, that matchup in Dallas just became a lot more intriguing for several reasons. 🚹 Schedule Update: @CuseFootball at SMU on Oct. 4 will be a 3:30 PM ET kickoff on ESPN2 or ACC Network (network designation will be announced following the games of Sept. 27). pic.twitter.com/2Wht5Y8uqa — Syracuse Athletics (@Cuse) September 22, 2025 SMU started off the year ranked as high as No. 16 in the AP Poll and are coming off a College Footba...

Jets lose Quincy Williams to a shoulder injury

The Jets defense will be without linebacker Quincy Williams for the rest of Sunday's game in Tampa. Williams went to the locker room just before the end of the first half and the team announced that he has been ruled out with a shoulder injury early in the second half. Williams had four tackles and a half-sack before his injury. The Bucs went into halftime with a 20-6 lead and they got the ball to start the third quarter. A Baker Mayfield scramble on third down kept the drive alive, but the Jets defense was able to hold once the ball got into the red zone. Caleb McLaughlin's third field goal of the day put the Bucs up 23-6 with six minutes to play in the second quarter. from Yahoo! Titans' end-of-half mismanagement marks worst Brian Callahan blunder yet

The Tennessee Titans had the ball at midfield at the two-minute warning with timeouts and time to score and get within a touchdown of the Indianapolis Colts before halftime. And then Brian Callahan and his increasingly-shaky end-of-half strategy stepped into the spotlight. There was a lot that went into it, but in summary: The Titans , down 17-6 tried to settle for a field goal without getting into reasonable field goal range, allowing the Colts to get into field goal range themselves before halftime. Here's how Callahan and the Titans messed up at the end of the half, step-by-step: Tony Pollard carries for six yards, and the play clock rolls down almost all way the down. Pollard carries again for a couple yards, and the play clock rolls down again. Pollard is short on 3rd and 2, and the Titans opt for a long field goal as the Colts call timeout with 47 seconds left. The Titans call timeout after the Colts' timeout. The Titans do not get the kicking ball into the ga...

When it comes to the 2025 Ryder Cup , the United States has plenty of experience on its team, but compared to the Europeans, those donning the red, white and blue are the least experienced bunch. Four of Team USA's 12 players will make their Ryder Cup debuts at Bethpage Black in New York. Five players will compete in their third Ryder Cup. Justin Thomas is the most experienced player on the U.S. side, preparing to make his fourth start in the biennial bout. 2026 NFL Draft prospects with the most to gain from conference play

Image
2026 NFL Draft prospects with the most to gain from conference play originally appeared on The Sporting News The college football season exists in three distinct stages. Early-season clashes are meant to generate hype and satisfy scheduling requirements. Ohio State played host to No. 1 Texas in Week 1 and the 5,000-student Grambling State Tigers in Week 2.  All eyes will be on the final stage, bowl season, in December and January. But before the College Football Playoff begins, we have to figure out who's worthy of participating. And for that, we have conference play, the meat and potatoes of our autumn Saturdays. Most Power Four teams will begin playing conference opponents in Week 4, offering a flurry of rivalry games and high-profile clashes. As teams jostle for positioning in the standings, their prospects will hope to look to put out good tape against meaningful competition to boost their NFL Draft stocks. A handful of 2026 prospects stand out as having the most to gain ...

Chandler Simpson's hot streak continues as Baz, Rays blank the Blue Jays

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Chandler Simpson had his second straight three-hit game and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 Thursday to split their series. Toronto's magic number to clinch a postseason spot remained at three. The AL East leaders have lost two straight following a six-game winning streak. Shane Baz (10-12) pitched five scoreless innings with two hits and four strikeouts. Four relievers combined to finish the shutout, Tampa Bay’s ninth of the season. Simpson lined a two-run single in the second inning to put Tampa Bay ahead. His consecutive three-hit games have bumped the rookie speedster's batting average to .301. He was caught stealing for the 12th time in 54 tries this season. Brandon Lowe followed Simpson with an RBI single in the second. Carson Williams extended the lead in the sixth with his fourth home run. The Rays forced Chris Bassitt (11-9) into long at-bats, running his pitch count to 89 before knocking him out in the fifth. The right-hander ...

Top committed defensive linemen in the 2026 class

Image
The 2026 recruiting cycle went way ahead of schedule from a commitment perspective. Not many notable prospects are left on the board with football season now well underway. Flips and decommitments will come, but as of Sept. 17, 48 of the top 50 defensive line prospects in the 2026 cycle — per the  Rivals Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies — are currently off the board. That includes each of the top 20 in the nation. Below is a look at the top defensive linemen prospects in the cycle, as well as where they’re currently committed: 1. James Johnson — Texas commit School: Northwestern (Fla.) Rivals Industry Ranking: No. 43 NATL. The recruitment of Johnson hit overdrive after he took his June official visits. He pledged to Georgia at the end of the month, but less than three weeks later, he flipped to Texas . Johnson told Rivals’ Chad Simmons that he felt “something was missing” when he chose UGA, and after some thought, he...

Bengals place Joe Burrow on injured reserve, have yet to announce his surgery date

Image
The Cincinnati Bengals placed franchise quarterback Joe Burrow on injured reserve on Sept. 16. By placing Burrow on injured reserve, it allows the team to add someone in his place to the 53-man roster. When a team places a player on injured reserve, they must miss a minimum of four games. In Burrow’s case, it will be much longer than four games. Burrow is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three months . Burrow is set to undergo surgery for his turf toe injury in the near future. The team has yet to announce when Burrow’s surgery will take place. More: Reds foot doctor explains why surgery is necessary for Joe Burrow, what rehab looks like Bengals coach Zac Taylor addressed Burrow’s injury during his regularly scheduled press conference on Sept. 15. “It looks like he's going to need surgery,” Taylor said. “We're still working through all the details of that, what that timeline's going to look like, so that's really all the information I have today” Tay...

Deion Sanders sends clear message to his players about NIL accountability

Image
Deion Sanders sends clear message to his players about NIL accountability originally appeared on The Sporting News Deion Sanders is taking everything in stride this week. The Colorado Buffaloes coach regrouped with his team after last Friday's 36-20 loss at Houston . This marks the worst start of Sanders' tenure in Boulder at a 1-2 record, which has prompted questions about the upcoming Big 12 schedule after the contest with Wyoming.   Coach Prime took questions during his press conference on Tuesday. He was openly asked about the current situation at quarterback . However, there weren't many details provided. What was clear from Sanders was the need to have his team on the same level. "Leadership and consistency" is what he was looking to see from his team. Sanders also took on some responsibility for the slow start.  "One thing about our young man, they're understanding what accountability is as well as us as the coaching staff," said Sanders....

Texas Longhorns Stars of the Week: UTEP Miners

Despite the relatively frustrating performance, there were some players who shined through this weekend for the Longhorns . The offense has yet to find a rhythm, but I think they found a clear positive among the negatives. The defense had stars all over the field, as they often do, but there are three guys that stood out to me Saturday.  Jelani McDonald  This, to me, was the player of the game for the Longhorns. McDonald totalled 6 tackles and reeled in his second career INT and first of the season. His confidence and ability on the backend has made him and Taaffe the two staples of the Texas defense, playing just about every snap this season. McDonald, stepping in for Andrew Mukuba, had big shoes to fill, and he has continued to improve every week. If he continues putting up performances like he did Saturday, the Texas defense will continue to be suffocating.  Jelani McDonald Picks it Off! đŸ€˜ pic.twitter.com/LWahY7FGNZ — Orangebloods.com (@orangebloods_) September ...

Sean Payton takes blame for leverage penalty, reveals biggest regret from Colts game

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton took the blame after a " leverage " penalty cost the team a win against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. Broncos defensive lineman Dondrea Tillman was penalized for leverage, which nullified Indy's missed 60-yard field goal attempt, allowing the Colts to kick a 45-yard, game-winning field goal to seal a 29-28 victory . Payton said during his conference call with reporters on Monday that blame for the penalty should not fall on Tillman or special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. "That's on me in that situation," Payton said. "It's not on Darren, it’s not on Tillman. With a 60-yard field goal attempt, it's different. The alignment got wrong, and the [penalty] call was correct. As a defensive line, you can push down on the back of the center and offensive linemen. You can push down on the back specifically, if you're going to go internally on the guards, you can push down. You can't push to jump. ...

Eagles-Chiefs inactives: 2 veteran edge rushers are healthy scratches again

Image
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced the inactives list for their 2025 NFL Week 2 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The following Eagles players WILL NOT PLAY: Dallas Goedert, Will Shipley, Tanner McKee , Drew Kendall, Azeez Ojulari, and Ogbo Okoronkwo. Goedert was ruled out on Friday due to a knee injury. Grant Calcaterra figures to start with Kylen Granson serving as the second tight end. The Eagles also temporarily elevated Cameron Latu (who is making his NFL regular season debut) from the practice squad for even more TE depth. Latu might also factor in at fullback in addition to playing special teams. Shipley was ruled out on Friday due to a rib injury. A.J. Dillon and newcomer Tank Bigsby are the active running backs behind Saquon Barkley. It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles use Bigsby; he might have a limited role on offense in addition to returning kicks. McKee is notably designated as the emergency third quarterback, unlike in Week 1. This means he can pl...

Shemar Stewart set for tough challenge in Week 2 vs. Jaguars

After a solid debut that saw flashes of a strong edge defender, but lack of stats other than a few quarterback pressures, Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart is set for his second challenge of the season as the Bengals take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. In Week 1, Stewart went up against the duo of Jack Conklin and Cornelius Lucas. In Week 2 against the Jaguars, Stewart will see the pairing of Anton Harrison and Walker Little. Harrison suffered a back injury during the Jaguars’ Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers but returned to a full practice Thursday and should be good to go for Sunday. RELATED: Bengals lose former waiver wire breakout to Jets If Week 1 is any indication, Harrison could be one of the better blockers in the league, particularly against the pass. His 81.4 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus ranked 9th among all offensive tackles in Week 1. He wasn’t too shabby in the run game, either. His grade of 69.5 was good for 18th. Keep in mind...

Bayern Munich’s Nicolas Jackson hoping to hear number called vs. Hamburger SV

Image
It has been a wild few weeks for Bayern Munich attacker Nicolas Jackson. After the difficult process of securing a loan from Chelsea to Bayern Munich, Jackson immediately went on international duty with Senegal, but now is ready to start making his mark in Bavaria. “I’m really happy to be here and train with the team. I know a few players and can hardly wait for the games to start,” said Jackson (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). “I’m obviously a number 9, but can also play as a second striker. I just want to help the team and play for the coach and the club. “I don’t know the difference yet (between the Bundesliga and Premier League) because I haven’t played here yet. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll know the difference. I’ve played in Spain and England, and maybe here for the first time tomorrow.” Jackson was also asked about the chaotic finals days of the transfer window, where he experienced a massive swing of emotions — several times. “They were tough moments, but I was very confident I’...

Kelsey Mitchell has conquered an old demon by leading the Indiana Fever to the playoffs

Image
The Fever are in the playoffs, largely due to the still-underrated play of Kelsey Mitchell. “Finding out was a sad day for her and the entire team,” Emily Engstler said at an Indiana Fever postgame press conference three years ago. “She got robbed.” Engstler was referring to the news that now three-time All-Star and Kelsey Mitchell was not selected to participate in the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game. That was life for Mitchell back then. Always overlooked. Always missing the playoffs while trying to put the Fever on her back. Isn’t it comical how things have shifted? Now, she benefits from the Caitlin Clark-teammate-effect boosting the amount of fan votes she gets for the All-Star Game. She’s not one to draw attention to herself, which made me even more sympathetic to her situation when she was lingering in the shadows. Whether she wants it or not, she’s part of the glitz and glam of Fevermania.  But during Indiana’s struggles this year, we were momentarily taken back to the...

Updates on the upcoming college basketball video game

Image
One of the purely most exciting development for college sports fans in recent years was the return of college football video games. While you can certainly quibble with parts of features or the gameplay in EA Sports College Football 25 or 26, we’re generally willing to deal with them at this stage, just because it had been so long. One thing that had not come in junction with the football video game was the return of a basketball one. Even before EA had their hand forced in stopping making the CFB games, they had already given up on CBB ones for a couple years. However earlier this year, that was seemingly set to change. Back in June, EA had seemingly confirmed that a college basketball game was on the horizon , however even generous timelines forecasted it being a few years away. Since then, things have gotten a bit messy. In addition to not having a CBB game, EA also hadn’t dipped their toe into the NBA waters in a while, as their last couple NBA Live editions had not been receiv...

Jamie Vardy reveals Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca convinced him about Cremonese move

Image
Jamie Vardy reveals Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca convinced him about Cremonese move Serie A side Cremonese have now completed a major move for Jamie Vardy and the new arrival has revealed that Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca played an important role in convincing him about the move. The 39-year-old spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport when he gave his first press conference as a Cremonese player earlier today. He was asked about his view of Serie A from abroad and he said: “When I was young, I always watched Serie A on Channel Four. It’s one of the best leagues in the world, more tactical and with more ball possession than the English one, but I played for Enzo Maresca, who has the same style, and that will help me. Ranieri? I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will; he’s had some nice things to say about me.”  When asked specifically about who influenced him into the decision, he spoke of Chelsea boss Maresca. “Enzo Maresca. I spoke to him a lot when the contact with Cremonese was ma...
