Yankees announce Friday night lineup vs. Dodgers at Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK - No one in Yankees Universe needs a refresher on Gerrit Cole's last outing against the Dodgers.
That moment - the fifth inning of 2024 World Series Game 5 - is burned into memory, with Cole rolling along and the Yankees halfway to taking the Series back to Los Angeles.
And then a series of pinstriped misfortune and Dodger tenacity turned things around, leading to the first of L.A.'s two straight titles.
Well, the defending world champions walk into Yankee Stadium on Friday night, the start of a three-game series to kick off MLB's unofficial second half.
And it's Cole (3-4, 4.04 ERA) opposing the Dodgers' Roki Sasaki (3-5, 5.33) in a 7:05 p.m. start, Sasaki's first appearance at the Stadium.
Of note, Jose Caballero is at shortstop, with Anthony Volpe on the bench to begin the Yanks' post All-Star break schedule.
In regular season play, Mookie Betts is a .429 hitter (6-for-14) vs. Cole, while Freddie Freeman is at .350 (7-for-20) and Shohei Ohtani is at .200 (4-for-20), with one home run.
Here is the Yankees' Friday night lineup...

- Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
- Cody Bellinger, LF
- Jasson Dominguez, RF
- Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B
- Jose Caballero, SS
