Dodgers' Hernandez to fund house building in Puerto RicoLos Angeles Dodgers utility player Enrique Hernandez on Friday said money he raised to help Puerto Rico recover from last year's deadly Hurricane Maria will be spent in the coming weeks to build more than 100 homes, but more aid is needed. Hernandez and his fiance raised more than $120,000 for aid group Habitat for Humanity in the aftermath of the storm and the Dodgers and team owner Mark Walter donated an additional $2 million in March.

Cleveland Guardians sign Tanner Bibee to long-term contract extension

Tanner Bibee emerged a central piece to the Guardians’ future last season. He’ll now remain in Cleveland until at least 2029. The Guardians signed the right-hander to a five-year contract extension through the 2029 season that includes a club option for 2030, the club announced Saturday afternoon. Bibee was set to become a free agent after the 2028 season. This extension eats up one and potentially two years of his free agent eligibility. For Bibee, it allows him to receive his first major payday without further injury risk. For the Guardians, it allows them to retain him for an extra season or two by giving him some early financial guarantees. Last year, Bibee took over as the club’s No. 1 starter after Shane Bieber needed Tommy John surgery , Gavin Williams missed most of the season with his own injury issues and Triston McKenzie lost his command to the point of needing to be sent to Triple-A Columbus.
