Resurgent Spieth 3rd-round leader at Colonial over Kokrak

Jordan Spieth knows how to finish out of the rough, and still had the lead after three rounds at Colonial. After hitting his final drive Saturday into the thick grass on an incline right of the No. 18 fairway, Spieth recovered with an approach to 8 feet before rolling in the birdie putt that gave him the solo lead again over playing partner Jason Kokrak in the final group at the the Charles Schwab Challenge. Spieth had his second consecutive round of 4-under 66 to get to 15 under at Colonial.

Cleveland Guardians sign Tanner Bibee to long-term contract extension

Tanner Bibee emerged a central piece to the Guardians’ future last season. He’ll now remain in Cleveland until at least 2029. The Guardians signed the right-hander to a five-year contract extension through the 2029 season that includes a club option for 2030, the club announced Saturday afternoon. Bibee was set to become a free agent after the 2028 season. This extension eats up one and potentially two years of his free agent eligibility. For Bibee, it allows him to receive his first major payday without further injury risk. For the Guardians, it allows them to retain him for an extra season or two by giving him some early financial guarantees. Last year, Bibee took over as the club’s No. 1 starter after Shane Bieber needed Tommy John surgery , Gavin Williams missed most of the season with his own injury issues and Triston McKenzie lost his command to the point of needing to be sent to Triple-A Columbus.
