Texas A&M softball vs LSU game score: Live update as Aggies look to sweep Tigers
COLLEGE STATION — No. 3 Texas A&M softball is hoping to complete its sweep of No. 6 LSU on Sunday afternoon in Davis Diamond.
A&M took the first game in a 12-7 victory Friday night, thanks to an efficient offense sparked by a double from center fielder Allie Enright and controlled pitching from Emiley Kennedy.
First baseman Mya Perez was the first Aggie with three doubles in one game since 2014. The Aggies also got great production in the bottom of the order, including a sacrifice bunt from catcher Olivia Johnson.
Saturday afternoon's 9-7 victory proved to be a bit harder after an avalanche of runs from LSU in the third inning to cut into the 7-0 lead the Aggies had built in the first. A&M saw four pitching changes and the return of senior pitcher Emiley Kennedy, who got the win Friday night.
A single by designated player, graduate student Mac Barbara got Perez out at second base, but junior third baseman Kennedy Powell secured the insurance run.
"It was a slow-developing play because it was a chopper. I knew when they threw to first, trying to get Mac, I didn’t stop running," she said.
The Tigers are trying to get their second SEC conference sweep of the season after beating Georgia in two games; the third was canceled due to weather. Head coach Trisha Ford said the Aggies owe the Tigers because when A&M traveled to Baton Rouge last year, it was the road team that got swept.
LSU (34-5, 8-4) pulled out a series win against Alabama but dropped the Sunday game. Before the Tigers arrive in College Station, the Tigers beat Louisiana Tech 9-1 in midweek action.
