Valkyries Release Multiple of Kate Martin's Teammates on Wednesday
After spending her WNBA rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces, Kate Martin was selected in December's expansion draft, joining the Golden State Valkyries for their inaugural season.
Martin made her Valkyries debut on May 6, coming off the bench in the preseason opening loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. But the former Iowa guard was unavailable for the preseason finale due to a finger injury.
Still, Martin was able to make Golden State's final roster, officially making her an original member of the team. But while the second-year guard will continue with the new team, five other Valkyries players weren't as lucky.
On Wednesday, the Valkyries, with the regular season approaching, were forced to cut ties with five players, including forwards Laeticia Amihere and Chloe Bibby, guards Kaitlyn Chen and Migna Touré, and center Elissa Cunane, per Clutch Points' Kenzo Fukuda.
"The Golden State Valkyries have waived Laeticia Amihere, Kaitlyn Chen, Chloe Bibby, Elissa Cunane, and Migna Touré."

The most surprising cut by Golden State may have been Amihere. The third-year forward from Ontario, Canada, spent her first two seasons with the Atlanta Dream before being waived on Feb. 1. Just five days later, she was picked up by Golden State.
Amihere had a solid outing in her Valkyries debut against the Sparks, recording 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and two rebounds. She made an impact in the finale as well, tallying five points, a rebound, two assists and two steals.
The former South Carolina standout made a post on social media, thanking Golden State for the opportunity.
"Thank you fams and everyone for the love ❤️ to God be the glory and thank you Valkyries for the opportunity 🙏🏾," Amihere wrote on X.
Now, Martin and the Valkyries will look toward the regular season, opening up with a rematch against Kelsey Plum and the Sparks on Friday at 10:00 p.m. ET.
