Team 'AC' wins East Central Classic

Team Ada Cougars, a local baseball team made up of high school players from all across the area, won the East Central Classic last weekend at Ken Turner Field.

The Cougar squad defeated the Pontotoc Prospects 10-3 in the championship game. The tournament was a fundraiser for the ECU Tiger baseball program.

Team members include Beckett Heilaman, Asa Steers and Wyatt Cole from Ada, Ryan Cosar, Noah Shelton and Jayse Wort of Byng, Gunner Cowger and Greg Forshay of Latta and Mason Harris of Roff. Coaching the Ada Cougars was Michael Cole.

Ada led just 5-4 before scoring five runs in the top of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

Cole, Harris and Steers all had hit two hits apiece to lead a nine-hit Ada offense.

Cole finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs; Harris went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases; and Steers finished 2-for-3 and also knocked in two runs.

Heilaman went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored for the Cougars and Cowger finished 1-for-1 with a walk and scored a run. Shelton was hit by a pitch twice and scored two runs.

Jaxon Tadlock went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored to pace a seven-hit Ponotoc Prospects offense. Josh Meek also had two hits and scored twice.
