England to face Spain and Croatia in Nations League

England will face Spain and Croatia and the Czech Republic in the 2026/27 Nations League group stage.

The fifth edition of the Uefa Nations League will take place between September 2026 and June 2027.

Portugal are the holders of the competition after they beat Spain on penalties in June last year. THey have been drawn against Wales, Denmark and Norway.

Each team will face every other team in their group twice, once at home and once away, between September and November 2026.

The top two teams from each group in League A progress to the quarter-finals, held in March 2027, before the semi-finals and final take place in June to determine the overall Nations League winner.

Each group winner in Leagues B, C and D will be promoted one league, while the teams finishing bottom of their groups in Leagues A, B and C will be relegated to the next level.

The teams that finish second in the other three leagues will enter play-offs against teams that finish third in Leagues A, B and C in relegation play-offs.

The best-performing teams in the competition that do not directly qualify for the 2028 European Championships will automatically enter play-offs to earn the final spots at that tournament.

Group C2: Montenegro, Armenia, Cyprus, Gibraltar/Latvia*

Group C3: Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Faroe Islands, Moldova

Group C4: Iceland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Luxembourg/Malta*

League D

Group D1: Gibraltar/Latvia, Luxembourg/Malta, Andorra

Group D2: Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein

*Gibraltar and Latvia, and Luxembourg and Malta, will contest play-offs in March to determine who will play in Leagues C and D.

Trace Carroll, close friend of ASU's Dillingham, takes over as Chaparral football coach

Trace Carroll, who was teammates and best friends with Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham in high school, is returning to Scottsdale Chaparral to lead the football program. Carroll played for two of the greatest high school coaches in Arizona history, Ron Estabrook and Charlie Ragle. He played at the tail end of Estabrook's career and the start of Ragle's tenure at the school. He was an offensive lineman, next to future NFL tackle Taylor Lewan, on the 2008 team that reached the state final, before losing to Scottsdale Saguaro. The quarterback of that team, Spencer Stone, is actress Emma Stone's brother. "As a proud alumni and as a former football player at Chaparral for Ron Estabrook and Charlie Ragle, I look forward to continuing the program’s great success," Carroll said. Cleveland Guardians sign Tanner Bibee to long-term contract extension

Tanner Bibee emerged a central piece to the Guardians’ future last season. He’ll now remain in Cleveland until at least 2029. The Guardians signed the right-hander to a five-year contract extension through the 2029 season that includes a club option for 2030, the club announced Saturday afternoon. Bibee was set to become a free agent after the 2028 season. This extension eats up one and potentially two years of his free agent eligibility. For Bibee, it allows him to receive his first major payday without further injury risk. For the Guardians, it allows them to retain him for an extra season or two by giving him some early financial guarantees. Last year, Bibee took over as the club’s No. 1 starter after Shane Bieber needed Tommy John surgery , Gavin Williams missed most of the season with his own injury issues and Triston McKenzie lost his command to the point of needing to be sent to Triple-A Columbus.
