Who will be the NFC’s surprise team in 2026?

The Los Angeles Rams missed their best chance at a second Super Bowl under Sean McVay thanks to an expected run from the Seattle Seahawks. Who will be the next surprise NFC playoff team in 2026?

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Seahawks have +750 odds to repeat next year, followed by the Rams at +800. Five of the teams with the highest Super Bowl odds reside in the NFC, yet as this season has proved, anyone could come out of nowhere. The conference also featured four different playoff teams from a year ago, including the top-seeded Seahawks, and No. 2 seed Bears.

New Orleans is a possible contender, as they won four of their last five to finish the season, and play in the painfully bad NFC South. The Saints will play a last-place schedule and have a chance to tee off against weaklings like the Browns, Cardinals, Raiders, Giants and of course, their dreadful division. They already have some believers out there.

The Giants are also a strong possibility, given they hired former Super Bowl champion coach John Harbaugh this offseason. While Harbaugh suffered a heartbreaking end to his time in Baltimore, brighter days seem to be ahead for him in the Big Apple. Before New York hired him, the sentiment around the league was that Big Blue was an elite head coach away from making some noise. With loads of promising young talent already on the roster, it’s hard not to feel that way.

Trace Carroll, close friend of ASU's Dillingham, takes over as Chaparral football coach

Trace Carroll, who was teammates and best friends with Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham in high school, is returning to Scottsdale Chaparral to lead the football program. Carroll played for two of the greatest high school coaches in Arizona history, Ron Estabrook and Charlie Ragle. He played at the tail end of Estabrook's career and the start of Ragle's tenure at the school. He was an offensive lineman, next to future NFL tackle Taylor Lewan, on the 2008 team that reached the state final, before losing to Scottsdale Saguaro. The quarterback of that team, Spencer Stone, is actress Emma Stone's brother. Cleveland Guardians sign Tanner Bibee to long-term contract extension

Tanner Bibee emerged a central piece to the Guardians’ future last season. He’ll now remain in Cleveland until at least 2029. The Guardians signed the right-hander to a five-year contract extension through the 2029 season that includes a club option for 2030, the club announced Saturday afternoon. Bibee was set to become a free agent after the 2028 season. This extension eats up one and potentially two years of his free agent eligibility. For Bibee, it allows him to receive his first major payday without further injury risk. For the Guardians, it allows them to retain him for an extra season or two by giving him some early financial guarantees. Last year, Bibee took over as the club’s No. 1 starter after Shane Bieber needed Tommy John surgery , Gavin Williams missed most of the season with his own injury issues and Triston McKenzie lost his command to the point of needing to be sent to Triple-A Columbus.
