Diamondbacks add 22-year-old pitcher ahead of potential MLB debut
The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to promote pitcher Mitch Bratt, who recently returned from the injured list at Triple-A, ahead of his possible MLB debut.
Bratt, 22, has limited Triple-A hitters to a .194 batting average while posting a 2.85 ERA this season for the Reno Aces. The Toronto native will join the taxi squad in St. Louis, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, but is expected to be active for Arizona’s June 24 game against the Cardinals.

Bratt is the No. 13 prospect in the Arizona system according to Baseball America, and No. 20 according to FanGraphs.
A left-handed pitcher, Bratt allowed two hits and two runs in the Aces’ game against the El Paso Chihuahuas on June 17 and has not pitched since — the definition of a fresh arm. Prior to that game, he did not pitch for 18 days because of an unspecified injury.
A fifth-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers in 2021, Bratt joined the Diamondbacks organization at the 2025 trade deadline as part of the package for pitcher Merrill Kelly.

Bratt was only 19 and a low-level minor league pitcher in 2023 when he took the ball for Team Canada in a World Baseball Classic game against the United States. He allowed four runs in the first inning while recording just one out.
Undeterred, Bratt continued to climb the minor league ladder and eventually became a coveted prospect. He had a 3.18 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) at Double-A last year prior to the Rangers-Diamondbacks trade.

The promotion comes at an important time for the Diamondbacks (39-39), who have lost three consecutive games and ceded second place in the National League West to the San Diego Padres (40-37).
The Cardinals (42-34) have been one of MLB’s biggest surprises this season. They would hold the first NL Wild Card berth if the season ended today.
Bratt figures to bolster a Diamondbacks pitching staff that could use a jolt in the standings.
