How realistic is 1,000-yard season for Patriots WR Romeo Doubs?
Romeo Doubs will have his share of challenges to record his first career 1,000-yard season in 2025 with the New England Patriots.
Doubs initially signed with the Patriots in free agency this offseason to be the team’s No. 1 receiver following the team’s decision to release Stefon Diggs.
The California native took the next step in his career in 2025 as a member of the Green Bay Packers, having recorded a career-high 724 receiving yards on 55 receptions. However, with the vast majority of Diggs’ targets in line to have gone to him next season, Doubs had the potential to see his targets be in the ballpark of 100 in 2026.
Now with star wide receiver A.J. Brown in town as the clear-cut No. 1 receiver for the Patriots, Doubs will be the secondary option in the offense next season. The Patriots are a pass-heavy offense, but have many other mouths to feed, including Hunter Henry, who will be Doubs’ main competition for targets behind Brown. Henry received the second-most targets for New England in 2025 with 87.
The Patriots threw the ball 482 times last season. If Brown receives at least 100 targets next season, it will be difficult for another 100 or so to go to Doubs, with DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams expected to see larger roles in the offense next season.
There's also the 40-plus targets that New England’s running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson are likely to see in 2026, if the team’s total passing attempts stay below 500.
