The Jaylen Brown trade rumors continue to dominate NBA -- and more specifically Boston Celtics-related headlines.
Basketball analysts, experts and insiders have crafted scores of trade proposals featuring Brown at the center, and members of The Ringer's NBA writing team got in on the fun Monday.
Senior staff writer Michael Pina came up with this idea that would send Boston's former NBA Finals MVP to the Sacramento Kings.
Kings receive: Jaylen Brown
Celtics receive: DeMar DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis and three first-round picks
"The particulars here are fluid. The Celtics might be able to squeeze more draft capital from Sacramento or add another small contract (like Luka Garza’s) to decrease their payroll and make ducking the tax that much easier. DeRozan’s contract is expiring, and only $10 million of it is guaranteed," Pina wrote. "But, fundamentally, the appeal for Boston is twofold. First, I don’t really care how dramatically reformed the lottery gets; owning Kings picks is smart business. Second, Sabonis is kinda what Boston needs: an interior low-post bruiser who’s comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter and could seamlessly fit into its preexisting offensive system."
Depending on if any other pieces would be shipped out of Boston and when the trio of first-round picks would come into play, this move would get the Celtics quite a bit older.
Brown will turn 30 years old in October, while DeRozan will be 37 in August and Sabonis is already 30.
DeRozan made four of his six All-Star teams during his first nine seasons with the Toronto Raptors, before spending three years with the San Antonio Spurs and earning back-to-back nods with the Chicago Bulls in 2022 and 2023.
He was traded to the Kings in July 2024 and finished last season with 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 31.2 minutes per game across 77 contests.
Sabonis is coming off a mostly lost 2025-26 campaign when he was limited to a career-low 19 games due to a partially torn meniscus.
The Gonzaga product was a consistently solid player prior to that though, averaging between 18.5 and 20.3 points, 12.0 and 13.9 rebounds and 5.0 and 8.2 assists per contest in six straight seasons.
