Raiders film room: The Cody White game-sealing touchdown

The Las Vegas Raiders pulled off a road win, their first at SoFi Stadium. The team was touchdown underdogs, went into Los Angeles, and beat the Chargers 26-14.

After Nakobe Dean caused a fumble, the Raiders were in position to close out the football game. After two run plays in a row, Klint Kubiak faced a third-and-five. He went for the gut and threw a game-sealing touchdown pass to Cody White from 11 yards out.

The setup for this play came in Week 1 vs. the Miami Dolphins. On a third-and-three, the Raiders got a seven-yard run from Ashton Jeanty out of the same look. Michael Mayer goes in motion, and after the snap, Ian Thomas pulls to lead-block for Jeanty.

Fast forward to Sunday against the Chargers, and the Raiders are back in the red zone, and it’s third down once again. They line up in the same formation that they did against the Dolphins. This time, though, Mayer goes out to the flat, and Cody White runs a corner route.

White sets up the play perfectly, using the same blocking motion he used in Week 1 against the Dolphins. However, he cuts upfield, and nobody on the opposing defense follows him. This leads to a wide-open touchdown and the Raiders going up 24-14.
